For another year at AVENUE we have prepared a unique and adventurous event so that they can prepare for their return to their desks with joy!
Children become little explorers, follow maps, discover clues and learn that school is the beginning of a great adventure.
The action runs in 5 repeated cycles of 35–40 minutes, with a small reset of materials between cycles.
Good explorers do not rely only on luck; they observe, combine clues and solve puzzles to discover their way. The animator takes on the role of the expedition leader and presents the children with a series of short puzzles, which describe objects in the setting, such as the compass, the map, the globe, the airplane or the hot air balloon. The children are asked to find which object each puzzle refers to and thus complete their mission.
Every explorer needs strength, agility and good physical condition, as they often cross difficult paths and overcome natural obstacles. Children test their skills on a kinetic route with cones, balance bars and hoops. They pass between the obstacles, balance, jump and complete the route, practicing their coordination and agility. The difficulty is adjusted according to the age of the children.
In their missions, the explorers often come across animal tracks. By learning to recognize them, they can understand which animals live in each area and move more safely. On the floor there are footprints of different animals and the children try to guess which animal they belong to. Then they learn a short interesting fact about it and imitate it, walking, moving or making its characteristic sounds.
A true explorer travels to every corner of the world and must be able to adapt to any environment. The inflatable globe is passed from child to child and, when the music stops, the animator announces a destination, such as a jungle, desert, mountain or the Arctic Circle. The children are asked to move as if they were there, using their imagination and their bodies.
Compass Commands
Correct orientation is one of the most important skills for any explorer. Before the game begins, the children know the main points of the horizon and learn how to use a compass to find the right direction. Then, with the large compass as a reference point, the animator gives instructions such as “two steps to the North”, “one jump to the West” or “turn to the East” and the children try to follow the directions correctly.
During a mission, explorers must listen carefully to the team leader's instructions and react quickly and correctly. In this themed version of the game "Simon Says", instructions are only carried out when preceded by the phrase "The explorer says...". The missions include actions such as "look through the binoculars", "set up the tent", "find tracks" or "cross the river".
Observation is essential in every exploration mission, as even the smallest detail can lead to an important discovery. Children sit in a circle and observe for a few seconds various exploration objects on the floor, such as a flashlight, compass, map, water bottle and rope. Then they close their eyes, the animator removes an object and the children try to find out which one is missing, testing their memory and observation skills.
At the end, all the children take a photo and receive the “Good Explorer Certificate” to remember this beautiful experience at AVENUE!
